2012 Brass Monkey report

The 2012 season opener was held on 31 March – the last day of summer. 22 boats turned up to enjoy the sunshine and light summer breezes, with 3 races being held over a variety of courses.

The course sailed didn’t make any difference to Ian Renilson who dominated the event in his Musto Skiff with three firsts. Behind Ian was a competitive battle for second place overall between Ian Baillie in his RS300 and Paul Rigg and Fiona Hall in their RS800. Ian took second overall with a 2,2,4 scoreline by one point, Paul and Fiona having a 3,4,2 series.

Ronnie and Tor Millar had 3 close races with Gavin and Finlay MacKinnon for the prize of first RS200, with Ronnie and Tor coming out on top and finishing 4th overall. Chris Morgan in his Musto Skiff took 5th overall and Gavin and Finlay were 6th.

There were a large number of Lasers on the water and Scott Hyslop and Pete Taylor had a series of close races which Scott edged to take 7th place overall.

A big thankyou to Cheryl Taylor as OOD who set an excellent variety of courses, and the “two Johns” in the rescue boats – Mucklow and Sadler.

A barbie after the event was perfect for the early evening summer sunshine, and thanks to Sandy McPhail as chief flipper on the barbeque, and to Cat Garner and her helpers for the organisation and salads.

An excellent start to the 2012 season – if you missed it…well get down the club and get sailing and forget the fact that winter is now here!
