AGM Reminder – Thursday 13 November
Members are reminded that the club’s AGM is scheduled for this date. Formal written notice was contained in an email and mail to all members dated 7 October. Members are advised that draft Statutory Accounts for the year ended 30 September 2014 are now available from behind the bar for members to review or from the AGM 2014 Supporting Material page on the club’s website. https://dbscweb.wordpress.com/committee/2014-agm/ Copies will also be available at the AGM, together with the Treasurer’s report and Budget & Fee Proposals.
Members attention is drawn to AGM agenda item 3, specifically the bar operation discussion. During his first year in office, our Treasurer has been reviewing the major parts of the club’s operations to identify improvement opportunities. A fundamental part of our operations is of course, our bar. His review has shown that, in common with most licensed premises, our bar has seen a long term decline in activity, which is particularly noticeable during the winter months. Between October 2013 and March 2014 more than six out of every ten opening days had insufficient takings to cover the direct costs. The losses were equivalent to a subsidy from each membership of over £11.
The Board are aware that the question of bar opening hours is a sensitive one and opinions relating to the bar vary widely across our membership. They have therefore agreed that all members should be given an opportunity at the meeting to participate in an open discussion before 2014/15 membership fees proposals are voted upon. Members are reminded that, in accordance with the club’s Articles and Rules, junior members, social members and outport members are non-voting members.
