Dalgety Bay Sailing Club May Regatta 2012

Dalgety Bay Sailing Club has decided to run its regatta on May 26 and 27 as a members only regatta. This regatta would typically attract a large number of young children to the club who would be unfamiliar with the additional tasks needed to enter the water. Since these tasks are essential to ensure safe sailing the club believe that it is in the interests of all sailors that the regatta be a members only regatta.

Dalgety Bay Sailing Club has a full programme for members and visitors throughout 2012, which includes our youth training programme and Youth Week, which we expect to be oversubscribed as usual.

In addition we will be holding an open Jubilee Sprint Series on June 6,7 and 8, and an open regatta on September 8 and 9. (These events will not have separate youth classes).

We are looking forward to a busy programme in 2012, which is available on the club’s website, and hope to see as many visitors as normal to our open events.

Powerboating in 2012!

Sailing season is fast approaching and while the last of winter hasn’t gone it’s time to think about ending the hibernation.
Once again DBSC will be running RYA powerboat training courses covering everything you need to get you zipping around safely and covering the safety boat role for racing and regattas.
Prices this season have had to go up a little to cover increasing fuel costs but these courses are still less than half the price of other commercial centres.

Dates to look out for:
26 February, 12.00 to 16.00 Pre season refresher session. £10.00
A chance for existing Level 2 and safety boat drivers to get back out on the water and revitalise those all important driving skills. Flush out the winter muppetry and raise your game ready for the season. Close quarters with a bit of tippin and towin of dinghies.

10/11 March, 09.30 to 16.30  RYA Safety Boat Course. £60.00
For existing Level 2 drivers with a minimum one seasons experience.
Take your powerboating Zen to new heights.  Cover all aspects of recovering capsized dinghies, towing craft and strategies for providing safety cover.

12 May, 10.30 onwards – Honda Youth RIB club heats. FREE
8-12 Yrs and 13-16 yrs only.  Come and tackle the infamous RIB slalom course and see who has what it takes to be the fastest.  Let rip in a 50 horse power RIB and battle for a place at the Scottish final in June.  Win the Scottish final and you could be going to Southampton and be in with a chance of winning a brand new RIB for the Club worth over £17,000!!
All participants will be supervised by a qualified instructor while driving.

11/12 August 09.30 to 16.30  RYA Level 2 course. £80.00
Get started in powerboating on this introductory course.  Learn everything you need to get out on the water and driving safely.

Mooring Fees 2012

To all Sailing Members who have yet to pay their Mooring Fees please
do so before the end of next week, Saturday 11th February 2012.
There are 17 fees at Forty Pounds still to be paid, the Club have paid the
Crown Estates SIXTEEN HUNDRED POUNDS already for the mooring fees
for 2012. The mooring fees used to be paid at the same time as membership
subscriptions, but last year the membership subs were moved to the 1st April
2012, however the Crown Estates fees for the moorings are due on the the 1st
January 2012 to 31st December 2012. The club have already paid this, so those
who have not paid their mooring fees are costing the club money in lost revenue.
If the mooring fees are not paid by the begining of March the the club will be forced
to charge you at the rate of single moorings fees of EIGHTY POUNDS rather that
the associate cost of Forty Pounds. Also regardless of whether you have a boat on
the mooring or not if you have a mooring laid on the deep water moorings area it has
to be paid for. If they are not paid for the mooring will have to be lifted and removed.

Moorings Rep.

Halloween Parties – Volunteers Needed

Folks

Halloween is on the way and its time to dress up the kids, yourselves and come along and support the club on the 29th of October

There is an afternoon party for the kids (1pm kick off) and an evening party for the more mature “kids” (7.30pm kick off) ; fancy dress though optional is encouraged so no one turning up as a “sailor” please…a sure fire way to encouarge a test of your waterproofs vi bucket of cold water

….does not need to be fancy…I tend to favour the “cut two holes in a sheet” routine, sling it over your head and shout “WOOOooooooooo” at passers by… and Bobs your uncle.. or you could be more imaginative!!

We do however needs volunteers to help do the following prep works..and you get to… pick at the kids food like Wotsits, cakes etc and the banter will be sparkling

Saturday morning – food preparation and cooking
Saturday afternoon – decorating club
Saturday evening – serving punch and food and clearing up
Sunday morning – food preparation for kids party (just snacks)
Sunday afternoon – assist with kids party and games etc, also clearing up

Also if anyone can bake spooky cupcakes etc for the kids party that would be excellent.

Please do contact Cat on 07939140054……..she cannae do it all herself…..

Adult Introduction to Sailing – 24-25th September

Following on from our successful day on the water a couple of weeks ago we are now ready to embrace the sailing again. This weekend offers an opportunity for those keen to sample the delights of sailing and gain a basic understanding and knowledge of the sport. Spaces will be limited to 6 Adults per weekend so it will be a first come first serve basis.

It is a complete taster to the fantastic world of sailing so no background knowledge is needed.

Keelboat Laying-up Supper – 30th September, 7pm

The Keelboat Laying-up Supper will take place on Friday 30th September 2011 at 7pm in The Clubhouse (ex-Granary)

Hello, all keelboaters! We are trying to revive an old and enjoyable tradition here!

The DBSC Keelboat Laying-up Supper has been organised per the above details. What will probably be arranged, further details to follow, is a restricted menu: the reason being that if we were all to choose from the Clubhouse’s usual “wide” menu, food would probably take (a) a long time to arrive, and (b) be out of sync – one person would be chomping away whilst his/her neighbour was waiting for food to arrive. As noted, further details to follow asap.

Meantime, in order to be able to firm-up numbers, it would be much appreciated if you could notify your interest to both the undernoted email addresses, phone numbers also supplied.

Pre-Youth Week Work Party – 23rd July

We are looking to hold a work party day on the 23rd to prepare for the approaching Youth Week and to help the club complete some of the larger jobs which are on the to-do list.

This list is including:

  • The general tidy up needed of the club grounds.
  • Helping with the sea defence work
  • Bleaching the Slipway
  • Cutting the Grass etc

Tea & Coffee will be provided, and if there’s enough demand, a BBQ can be arranged for afterwards.

If we could arrange to be down at the club for 10am on the Saturday we shall do our best to allocate suitable jobs for all who attend.

Could you please let us know if you are planning to attend by dropping a mail to rearcommodoreshore@dalgetybaysc.org together with a idea of the jobs you would be keen to help with.

Thank you, for supporting our club.
