Replacement Launching Extension

We now have a new launching extension for recovering Safety Boats and avoiding the tractor getting submerged. The old one was badly corroded and will be scrapped.

The new extension is a few inches shorter but the axle is substantially heavier which might help with low nose weight on RIB trailers. It can also be used on keelboats where the jockey wheel is not in good order.

I left it behind the top boatshed this morning.

More Unidentified Trailers

We have now moved onto smaller trailers and put them in a clear space to aid identification:

As before some are in very poor condition but others would be serviceable with some work

If you can help identify please Contact Shore Sec

We have started labelling those identified in previous posts so thanks for that and keep the info coming in.

Thanks

Safety Boat Moorings

Mooring Buoys

Would members please note that the 3 new safety boat moorings and Nova’s mooring are for use by Club Safety Boats only.

We have a concession from Crown Estates that exempts us from mooring fees for these moorings on the condition that they are used for safety craft only. We may well get an inspection of moorings at any time and would not wish for the club to be compromised.

Should RIB owners wish a mooring for their personal use then please contact Moorings Rep who can help facilitate this. There are locations available where no Crown fee is payable and it would also be possible for several members to collaborate and share a mooring.

Has your outboard gone missing?

Based on data gathered from membership renewal I have moved a number of outboards from the racking in the tender store and placed them in the vacant tender slot 7, and reallocated the storage slots to members who have requested them. There are some engines I was unable to move and these remain for the time being occupying slots that could be used by active members.

I have no record of the owners for most of these engines and would like to identify them asap so that we may dispose of some which I am sure are abandoned.

All engines have a wee red tag attached so that I can keep track of them and link them to owners.

To see pictures of the engines I need to identify owners for please click here.

If you recognise any please let me know.

The current plan of allocated slots is here

If you need a slot and haven’t got one please contact me. Do not just put your engine in an empty slot in the store as it is probably allocated to someone else! I hope to label the slots more clearly at some point soon.

Raft out of service

The raft engine let us down badly today and lost power and we only just made it back to its mooring against the wind and tide. It will be removed and returned to Bosun’s Locker where it was serviced.

It was playing up last week and the fuel pipe was replaced but clearly not solved the problem.

On the bright side we did get one keelboat mooring positioned as well as Nova’s.

Hopefully it will be back during next week, I’ll keep you posted.

Raft & Moorings Order

The raft was launched today and is available for checking moorings. The fuel is in the fuel store and the outboard fuel pipe and kill cord are left on the raft. I have put up a booking sheet in the basement as usual so that you can collaborate where possible. Whoever uses it first please take out the large boathook from lower boat shed as we forgot that today. Please leave raft clean and tidy as found and report any problems so we can get them fixed. Raft Safety Guidance  is on the website.

Initial moorings order is placed and should be delivered to the club next week, all being well. If you missed this first order I will place a second at the end of April so please let me have your requirements asap.

Annual Moorings Order

As discussed at the recent keelboat meeting we plan to have the raft refurbished by the end of March and launched as required and weather permits in April.

As usual I will put up a raft booking chart in the club basement.

I have been promised an updated price list from Henderson’s this week but so far it has not materialised and I am away on Sat 8th for a week. I am anxious that we have all our orders for chain & shackles pulled together by the end of March so we can get delivery in early April. Please can you start to draw up a list of your requirements and I will publish the pricelist as soon as I get it. By putting in a bulk order we get trade prices so it is well worth doing.  Here is  2012 pricelist so you can see the range of stock and get an idea of prices.

The usual terms will apply of payment in advance to DBSC Ltd. Once I have the correct prices I will let you know the amount due and this can either be handed to me as a cheque payable to DBSC Ltd or posted to the treasurer c/o DBSC with a note clearly stating your name and membership no. & that it is for a mooring order.

I will put a post on the website and also in next newsletter once I have the pricelist but wanted to give you time to think about your requirements as time will be tight.

If anyone needs advice please refer to DBSC Mooring Guidance or give me a call.

Thanks

John Spruce
