Our Sister Sailing Club : Sarasota Sailing Squadron
We have established links between both DBSC and SSS on respective websites and are embarking on establishing links with SSS. Burgees and memorabilia have been exchanged. To date DBSC members have sailed at SSS on their visits to Florida both racing and day cruising. SSS members have raced with DBSC members at West Highland Yachting Week and have sailed on “delivery trips”. Both clubs share their histories to support their current developments so that their previous experiences may provide a starting point.
The Squadron is located on City Island in Sarasota, Florida. City Island is located on the west side of Sarasota Bay, between St. Armands and Longboat Key. Its particulars are as follows:
Street Address : 1717 Thompson Parkway

Here are the directions to the Floridian Sister:
To reach the squadron from I-75, take the Fruitville Road exit (#39) west until reaching US-41. Turn left, then right at the next light onto the John Ringling Causeway. As you cross the bridge, sailboats moored off the squadron can be seen on your right. Proceed to St.Armands Circle, and bear right, taking the first outlet from the circle. Proceed North, following the Mote Marine signs. Turn right onto Ken Thompson Parkway, just before the longboat Key / New Pass bridge. The Squadron is located almost at the end of the road, on the left. Parking is available inside – overflow parking is outside.
The latest development has been the offer of E-Mail pen pals for youth members and the matching of our Training ‘Chief’ Kirsty with her counterpart in Sarasota, again by E-Mail.
We look forward to further developments with interest.
Any observations or suggestions about developing this relationship further – please contact Ken.
